A few words from our Chair:-
December 16th dawned bright and clear. It certainly was a lovely day for the Knysna Marathon Club to offer the annual 10km Nite Race.
This year Seeff came on board to partner with the club and there was a sense of excitement as the organizing group unpacked 400 goodie bags to surprise the runners with. By 16:00 when registration opened, there was a buzz around the club house and this grew as more and more competitors arrived to register.
The 10km event is a fast and flat route from the soccer field behind the Club-house at Loerie Park, around the edge of the parking area and onto George Rex Drive towards Leisure Island. The runners follow the perimeter road around Leisure Isle and return to the club house along George Rex Drive with a final lap around the soccer field to the finish. Lloyd Bosman, the winner of the event completed the route in just under 30 minutes!
The 4,8km fun run started off with the 10km runners and turned before the Island to return to the club-house area. This fun run certainly adds to the atmosphere as families turn out to cover the distance together. Youngsters compete against each other and good fun certainly seems to be the name of the game.
An impromptu drive to gather donations for food for KAWS was successful and we thank everyone who contributed to this initiative.
This year we were amazed and delighted by the turn out. The total field was 557. Many participants stayed to enjoy the food and drink on offer and relaxed as day turned to night.
We take pride in hosting this very special 4.8 km and 10 km run or walk on an easy route.
